My work is inspired by my love of miniature things. As a kid, I was always carrying tiny things around with me (in a fashionable purse, of course), like toy food, a miniature tea set, tiny books. I had a pink dollhouse that my grandfather built for me that I decorated and redecorated for years with miniatures that I made myself from anything I could find. Jill K Davis Jewelry takes this childhood joy and fascination and turns it into sophisticated precious metal jewelry without losing any of the magic.
I've been making jewelry since I was born, I think, turning food and clovers into necklaces and rings. Then I moved on to paper, clay, wire, and beads. I took an enameling class and silversmithing class in high school After that, I knew what I was going to be doing for the rest of my life. I went on to study metalsmithing at Syracuse University, receiving my BFA. Then I went to work as a polisher and repair jeweler in Michigan at a mall chain jewelry store. I learned a lot about technique, but I became bored and very creatively stunted. It was time for something new so I moved to New York City to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology where I received my Associate's in Jewelry Design. Upon graduation I moved to Brooklyn, set up my studio and Jill K Davis Jewelry was born.
All of my jewelry has been handmade in my studio with my own two hands. Quality materials and craftsmanship are very important to me as jewelry is very intimate and special and carries meaning that you wear close to you everyday. It should last for generations.
